The Amhara Democratic Part has chosen Temesgen Tiruneh as the Chief Administrator of the Amhara Region. He will succeed Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen who was gunned down in his office earler this month.

In addition to the regional president Ambachew Mekonnen, also killed were his advisor, Ezez Wasse, and the region’s attorney general, Migbaru Kebede.

Temesgen Truneh was the security adviser to Prime MinisterAbiy Ahmed. Prior to that, he was working at the Ethiopian Information Network Security Agency (INSA) under the leadership of the then Director of INSA Abiy Ahmed, the current Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

In the past, Temesgen Trunehis also served as head of the information division within Ethiopian Defense Force, electronics and technical information department, Amhara Region Police Commissioner, Amhara Region rural roads construction agency director, and head of East Gojjam zone administration.

The Central committee of Amhara Democratic Party (ADP) concluded its meeting which was held in the past three days in Bahir Dar city.

Temesgen Truneh holds a degree in computer science and a masters degree in institutional change management, according to FBC report.

Temesgen Truneh a strong supporter and admirer of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. In a video released earlier this year about Abiy Ahmed, he was one of disciples prominently featured and talking about Abiy Ahmed in glowing terms. This is sure to drive skeptics to ask whether the region's highest post has gone too close to the Prime Minister or not.

Since Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen was killed, Lake Ayalew served as Deputy Chief Administrator of Amhara regional state. It is unknown why he was replaced by Temesgen Truneh.

The Central Committee of ADP has also appointed Yohannes Buayalew as deputy chairman of the party.

Yohannes Buayalew is one of the most influencial and articulate persons in ADP lately, and is considered among those who are strong Amhara nationalists.

He seemed to have disappeared for a few days following the assassination of Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen. At the time, some speculated whether he was involved in one way or another.

In the past, the Deputy Chair of ADP also served as the Chief Administrator of the region. That is not the case this time.

The party has also appointed Temesgen Tiruneh and Agegnehu Teshager to the executive committee of the ADP.

Agegnehu Teshager served in various posts in the Amhara regional administration. He was head of North Gonder zone administration, Amhara region Management academy director, and trade and market development office head . Following the killing of General Asaminew Tsige, he was appointed as the region’s peace and security head.
